They didn’t just treat my injury—they helped me trust my body again.

Marisa P.

The Injury That Changed Everything

It started as a normal summer weekend.

Marisa had just completed a 5K run the day before and, like many active people, jumped straight into her next activity—a recreational soccer game. With a short roster and no opportunity to rotate off the field, she pushed through fatigue without taking time to properly stretch or recover.

Near the end of the game, everything changed.

A collision with another player sent her off balance, and she landed awkwardly on her leg.

“I knew right away something wasn’t right—but I didn’t think it would change the next year of my life.”

Conflicting Answers—and Growing Uncertainty

In the days and weeks that followed, Marisa sought answers.

She visited multiple healthcare providers, hoping for clarity—but instead received mixed and often dismissive opinions. Some told her it was minor. Others confidently ruled out a serious injury like an ACL tear.

But her body told a different story.

She struggled to walk. Pain persisted. Something didn’t feel right.

That’s when she turned to the team at Paramount Physiotherapy.

“They were the first ones who really listened—and more importantly, believed something deeper was going on.”

Trusting the Process

From the beginning, the team at Paramount had a different perspective.

They strongly suspected a more serious ligament injury and repeatedly encouraged Marisa to get an MRI to confirm the diagnosis. Although the wait time for imaging was months away, they didn’t wait to begin care.

Instead, they took action immediately.

Through guided physiotherapy, they worked to maintain strength, manage pain, and preserve as much mobility as possible while she waited for answers.

“Even without the MRI, they treated me like someone with a real injury—not just a minor strain.”

The Diagnosis—and Validation

When the MRI results finally came in, everything became clear.

Marisa had a full ACL tear.

The team at Paramount had been right all along.

What could have been months of improper treatment or worsening damage was instead managed carefully and proactively.

“It was overwhelming—but also validating. They had been advocating for me from the beginning.”

Surgery and Starting Over

Nearly a year after the initial injury, Marisa underwent ACL reconstruction surgery.

Her procedure was performed under the care of Dr. John Theodoropoulos, a leading orthopaedic surgeon and Head Team Physician for both the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays.

But surgery was only the beginning.

Before surgery, Marisa could barely walk. After surgery, she had to relearn how.

Learning to Walk Again

Post-operative recovery was one of the most physically and mentally challenging periods of her life.

Step by step—literally—the team at Paramount guided her through the process.

They worked closely alongside the surgeon’s protocol, ensuring every phase of recovery was intentional, safe, and progressive.

From regaining basic mobility to rebuilding strength and confidence, every milestone mattered.

“They didn’t just help me recover—they taught me how to trust my body again.”

Back to Life—and Beyond

Today, Marisa’s story looks very different.

She’s not just walking—she’s running again.

And more than that, she’s pushing herself in ways she once thought might never be possible.

One of her biggest accomplishments?

Completing the W-Trek in Patagonia, Chile—a demanding, multi-day hiking journey through some of the world’s most challenging terrain.

A Team That Made the Difference

Looking back, Marisa credits her recovery not just to treatment—but to advocacy, persistence, and trust.

The team at Paramount didn’t settle for surface-level answers. They pushed for clarity, acted early, and supported her through every stage of recovery.

“They saw what others missed—and they never stopped pushing for me to get the care I needed.”

Final Thoughts

Marisa’s journey is a reminder that recovery isn’t always linear—and that the right team can make all the difference.

Whether you’re dealing with a new injury or something that just doesn’t feel right, listening to your body—and working with professionals who listen too—can change everything.
